Matsumoto Castle is one of the oldest and most beautiful castles among the original Japanese castles.
Located in Nagano prefecture, it has become a National Treasure as the oldest castle.
Dating from the 1590s, the main castle ‘keep’ and its second donjon were built from 1592 to 1614.
The building is also known as the Crow Castle because of its black exterior.
The wooden interior offers an authentic experience unlike many other castles that were rebuilt with concrete.
There is a park around the castle, and a lot of festivals are held there throughout the year.
