Udon is a very common local food in Japan: simple and healthy but cheap!
Last year, I was so happy to hear that Hanamaru Udon was coming to Malaysia as I love this restaurant so much.
Hanamaru Udon is a chain sanuki-udon restaurant founded in 2001 in Kagawa Prefecture, which is the famous home of sanuki-udon.
It has more than 300 branches in Japan nowadays.
In my view, Hanamaru Udon’s sanuki udon is popular because of its chewiness.
Like other sanuki-udons, some of their udons are very simple.
There are a lot of similar simple items there.
What is the difference between them? OK, let me explain…
◼︎Kakeudon udon with light soup
◼︎Bukkakeudon udon with thick sauce (less soup than kakeudon)
◼︎Kamatamaudon udon with thick sauce with a raw egg in it
According to a survey in Japan, the most popular item in Hanamaru udon is the Bukkake-udon which is the simplest item of them all.
Bukkake contains just noodles and a little soup without toppings…people believe this is the best way to enjoy their noodles.
The reason why people love simple udon without toppings is that they can easily taste the noodle’s “chewiness”.
You can find their branches Mid Valley Mega mall or AEON Shah Alam, etc…
